Tithe

The title of the fantasy book I read was Tithe and was written by Holly Black. The date it was publicized on was April 2004, and has 331 pages. The main character of Tithe is a 16 year-old girl named Kaye. She is very independent and brave and moves wherever her mother's rock band takes her. Her best friend, Janet, always was a friend of Kaye's even though she is a little strange and moves a lot. Janet is very popular and goes to a lot of parties. Janet's brother is also a main character in the story. His name is Corny and works at the gas station and is very nerdy.

This story is about a girl named Kaye who does not go to school because her mother moves all over the country and Kaye just recently moved to where she grew up and played with faeries. One night she is walking home from meeting Janet, and she saves a man's life named Roiben. Her faerie friends tell her he is evil, and she is a faerie and help her turn into one. The next day her faerie friends tell her to become the sacrifice for the tithe. The tithe is when the Seelie court, good creatures, can be free for seven years if the Unseelie court, bad creatures, doesn't sacrifice one of themselves. Corny come with her to the tithe, and when Kaye is put up for her death she commands Roiben to untie her, who is the man she saved. A war breaks out, so Kaye and Corny run home. When Janet invites Kaye to a party Janet is taken away to the dock to dance with someone. Kaye looks around and figures out that all these people are Seelie court creatures that like to make people go crazy or kill them. So the "person" dancing with Janet pushes her into the ocean with a kelpie. Kelpis like to kill humans for fun, but is up to you if you want to know what happens. Buy the book and then you'll find out.

I think Tithe is a fantastic book! What I love about this book is that there is so much action in it. That is what i think kids my age will love about this book, is that there is non stop action. When the tithe is taking place you wait to see if Kaye will be dropped into a pit of fire. I think that is a great example of great this book is. You have to wait and see what will happen with anticipation. You can't put this book down because every page something different comes up. Throughout the book something gets explained that you didn't understand in the beginning, so it isn't confusing. It's a great book and I hope people will read it, because all kids deserve too read the wonderful writing of Holly Black in her book Tithe
