Welcome to the World of Midnight!

The Secret Hour

The name of the book is called, The Secret Hour and the author of this amazing book is Scott Westerfield. 2004 was the year the book was published and has 297 pages of pure excitement. The four most important characters in this book are Jessica Day, Rex Greene, Dess, and Jonathon. Jessica moved from Chicago, Illinois to Bixby, Oklahoma. While trying to adapt to the new environment around her, she experiences wild dreams. Rex goes to the same high school as Jessica and wears all black with also sunglasses because he is photophobic. He also explains to Jessica about her wild dreams with Dess. Dess is a friend of Rex and also goes to the same high school as he and Jessica. Jonathon goes to the same school as all of them and has sleepy eyes during the daylight.

Jessica Day just moved to Bixby, Oklahoma and on the first day she receives wild dreams. The first day of her new school a guy named Rex dropped his glasses. When he got them back from Jessica he can see her perfectly without his glasses which means something special. He tells Dess about the current situation and tries to figure out what the special thing about Jessica is because they believe that Jessica is a Midnighter just like them. The next time they met with Jessica, they explain to her about why her dreams seemed real because they were. At the strike of midnight, everything in Bixby will freeze except for a few people because they were born at the stroke of midnight and are able to have an extra hour. Every Midnighter has a special power, but the problem is that Jessica doesn't know what power she has. At every secret hour she tries to figure out what kind of power she has and she finally does. She has the power to start fire with her bare hands and proves to Rex and Dess that she's truly a Midnighter.

This book gives adventure and has a cliff-hanger to every end of the chapter. What I love about this book is that it's meant for the dark and the moon shines brightly above their heads. The few people who are able to go to the secret hour have their own playground to play at the darkest hour of the night, midnight. This book gives action, adventure, and darkness to every page you turn. During the secret hour, everything around you will freeze. Raindrops will freeze in place and when you touch it, it would move right out of its place. There are things who live in the secret hour and they're called slithers and darklings. Slithers look like shadows of snakes and don't really bother the humans at all. Darklings are bird-like creatures that fly high in the sky and always fly in groups of four, six, or twelve. This book keeps on getting better and better doesn't it? For more information just read the book and the series!
