The name of the book I read was called Poppy and Rye. The author of the book was AVI and it was published in 1998 and has 210 pages. Poppy is the main character in the book. She is a small deer mouse with white fur on her belly and the rest of her fur is a soft orange brown and her nose is pink and her toes were small and her tail was long and from her right ear there is a small purple earring. Ereth, the porcupine, is one of Poppy's best friends even though he is quite grumpy with sharp, pointy quills. Rye is another very important character. he is a small golden mouse with orange color fur and a small tail and a notch in his right ear. He is now the oldest of his 63 siblings since his brother died. Rye's mother, Clover is also a golden mouse but is quite small and had silky black eyes. Valerian is Clover's husband and he is to a golden mouse. He is middle-aged with shabby orange fur and scruffy whiskers edged with gray.
The story begins with Clover and Valerian being forced out of their home by beavers who are flooding their brook. they are currently living under a rock. Meanwhile Poppy and Ereth are looking for the family so that they can tell them of one of their sons death. on the way to the brook Poppy meets a mouse named Rye but they only danced with each other and they didn't talk. once Poppy got to the brook she found that it was flooded by the beavers. once she found the golden mouse family she told them of the terrible news of their son. once the golden mouse family calmed down , their new older son Rye heard of the news and decided to stand up for his family and win Poppy's love by going to try to stop the beavers but he got captured. Poppy later found out about this and went to go save Rye. When she found him they were trapped. the rest of the mouse family decided to take action and not live in fear so with all their strength, they pushed the big rock onto the dam and destroyed it. Later, Poppy and Rye escaped and they got married and they all lived happily ever after. THE END.
I think this book was really great tale of love and adventure. Kids probably around the ages of 9 and 12 would like this book. Kids who really love stories of talking animals will love it too. It is very cute book and it really describes the characters well. To really understand this book, you need to read the one before it called Poppy. This book is the sequel to that one. I really loved how all the mice at the end teamed up with each other and destroyed the beavers dam even though they were small. That proves that no matter how big or small you are that you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it.Allison G.
