Ice Station

The title of the book is Ice Station by Matthew J. Reilly. It was published in 1999, and is 390 pages. The main characters are Shane Schofield, Snake, and Sarah Hensleigh. Shane Schofield is a marine reconnaissance unit commander. Snake is in Shane’s unit, but is a part of an underground organization known as ICG. Sarah is an archaeologist at the station and is also a part of ICG.

An extraterrestrial spaceship has been discovered in the ice underneath Wilkes Ice Station. The scientists at the station send divers in to look at the ship and they never return, so the scientists send out a distress signal. Schofield’s team of elite recon marines is sent in to secure the station. Shane and his team have to fight the fiercest French and British commandos to hold on to the station. They then discover a mole in their unit killing their weak. Snake and one of the scientists, Sarah, are part of an organization known as the ICG and they will kill their own countrymen in order to keep America’s secrets, secret. Snake kills one wounded marine and tries to kill Schofield. He is exposed and killed. The American reinforcements come, loaded with ICG men to kill Shane’s unit. They escape, however and get back to Hawaii. Schofield exposes the ICG and they are all safe.

This book is great! I loved it and anyone who likes sci-fi or adventure will too. It is fast-paced, clever, and captivating. Ice station grabs you and doesn’t let go. The book has two major plots and specifically, I liked how it had me guessing how it would unfold. I loved this book.
