The book I read, The Golden Compass, is a great book. It was full of adventure and mind blowing tragedies. The authors name is Phillip Pullman. There are many characters in the book. The main character is Lyra. Every person has a daemon. The daemon is a talking animal that can take the shape of any animal. Lyra lives among scholars at Jordan College. Lyra does not have much family other than her uncle, Lord Asriel, who she very rarely sees. Lyra lives in a harmful world full of Gobblers, people who still children. Lyra is also fascinated about the topic of dust, an adult topic.

Lyra hides in a place forbidden for females, in the scholar room. She hides in a wardrobe. Later that night she finds out that her friend Rodger was taken by the gobblers. While Lyra was looking for him she was taken in by a nice lady name Ms. Coutler. She was her assistant. She soon found out that Ms. CoutlerŐs daemon, a golden monkey, has been sneaking around and spying on Lyra. Lyra escapes from Ms. Coutler during a party she was hosting. Lyra also meets a real boy named Will Parry. He helps her find her way back and tells her of all the real creatures. When she gets back all the scholars try to rescue the kids that have been stolen. Soon they sneak on the ship and see the gobblers cutting the daemons for science. They finally set all the kids and their daemons free. The children soon tell Lyra that the Gobblers are coming. When the Gobblers come Ms. Coutler tries to seize Lyra. She survives but is being taken to Svalbard by armored bears, to be put in a dungeon. Lyra tricks one of the bears into killing the other bear and escapes. Lyra hears that her uncle is being held captive also. When she finally reaches him she sees that he was experimenting with dust. He tells Lyra dust is eternal sin, adults only attract dust, because kids are to innocent to have sinned. Therefore they will try to eliminate dust, but if they eliminate dust that would mean there would eliminate humans

I thought this book was really good! Now I want to see the movie. I liked how the book had a lot of fantasy in it, so when I was stressed I could escape and go to another world. The thing I didnŐt like about this book is that it got confusing sometimes. It kept me always wanting to read more. I would recommend this book to everyone because, it is written very nicely. It also has a great ending. This was a thrill packed fantasy book.
