Third Grade Curriculum |
Religion:
- The students study the saints, the Ten Commandments,
the sacraments, and the Nicene Creed.
- The students will continue to develop their
relationship with God through daily prayer, weekly,
attendance at mass, monthly Eucharistic visits, reception
of the sacrament of reconciliation, and seasonal retreats.
Mathematics:
- By the end of third grade, students deepen their
understanding and skill with addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division of whole numbers.
- Students estimate, measure and describe objects in
space.
- Students use patterns to help solve patterns.
- Students represent number relationships and conduct
simple probability experiments.
Reading:
- Students further develop their comprehension skills.
- When reading aloud, students will show evidence of an
awareness of punctuation by use of appropriate pauses and
inflection.
- Students will show further evidence of enjoyment of
reading.
Writing:
- Students will continue to work on writing clear and
coherent sentences and paragraphs that develop a central
idea.
- Students will progress through the stages of the
writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing,
and publishing).
Social Studies:
- Students study family, local, and United States
history.
- Students learn about our connection to the past and
the ways in which local government and traditions have
developed and left their marks on current history.
Science:
- Students will study topics relevant to Life, Physical,
and Earth Science.
- Students will make monthly visits to the Science lab.
Spelling:
- Students follow the VoWac curriculum.
