Kindergarten Curriculum |
Religion:
- Learn how to correctly make The Sign of the Cross.
- Recite the Our Father, Angel of God, and Hail Mary
prayers.
- Appreciate how God has created each of us uniquely and
celebrate each child during Special Child of God week.
- Understand that we are all part of God's family.
Mathematics:
- Understand small numbers, quantities, and simple
shapes in everyday environment (e.g., circle, triangle,
square, rectangle, cube, sphere, cone).
- Count numbers 0-31, compare, describe, and sort
objects to develop a sense of properties and patterns.
- Understand simple addition and subtraction problems
for numbers that are each less than 10 and be able to sort
and classify objects by attribute.
- Understand the concept of time (e.g. morning,
afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, week,
year).
- Understand units of measurement such as length,
weight, and capacity, and be able to tell which object is
shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, or which will
hold more.
English:
- Be able to speak and listen respectfully and
appropriately when interacting with adults and peers.
- Retell familiar stories and share personal
experiences.
- Be able to memorize and recite short poems, rhymes,
and songs and respond orally to audio and visual
presentations.
- Answer questions about the elements of the story (i.e.
settings, character, key events).
Writing:
- Hold the pencil correctly and print whole name using
correct letter formation and print upper and lower case
letters independently.
- Write using left-to-right, top to bottom progression.
- Begin to use spaces between letters and words.
- Begin to use letters and phonetically spelled words to
write about own experiences, stories, people, objects and
events.
- Use mixture of drawing and writing to convey and
support an idea.
Literature:
- Experience a variety of literature, including poetry,
fiction, and non-fiction.
- Begin to locate title, table of contents, name of
author, and illustrator.
- Use pictures and context to make predictions about
story content.
- Ask and answer questions about essential elements of
text (i.e. settings, characters, key events).
Social Studies:
- Learn how to be a good citizen.
- Identify jobs and community helpers.
- Learn about events, people, and places of other times.
Science:
- Understand that living things need food, water and air
to grow and to stay alive.
- Observe the world around us by using our five senses.
- Sort and classify using graphs.
- Observe the weather and understand that the seasons
change and that living things change.
Spelling:
- Learn to sound out words and spell words phonetically.
