What Goes On In Pre-K Class
During our language circle your child is given their own
copy of an Alpha Tales book. Each week it is a story that is
full of our letter of the week. Your child will develop a
sense of tracing left to right reading skills. They begin to
learn the book through repetition and associate words with
pictures. They will bring this book home on each Friday to
keep. We encourage you to have your child "read" it to you.
Along with our letter of the week activities we decorate a
collage letter as a class. Your child is encouraged to bring
pictures from magazines, stickers, etc. that start with that
letter. In circle they will glue their item onto that letter
and share the pictures they have brought. This is not
required; it's just a fun way to learn the sounds of the
alphabet.
Once a week we have sharing. Your child may bring an item
from home to share. We encourage the children to bring
something that starts with the letter of the week. The item
shouldn't be any bigger than what can fit in their cubby.
Sharing gives a child the opportunity to develop language
skills by speaking to their classmates. Please no weapons.
Toys can only be brought on sharing day, on no other day may
toys come to school. Thank you in advance for your
cooperation.
We offer a small snack and juice every day. Your child does
not need to bring their own snack, unless otherwise arranged
due to allergies. Birthday snacks are always welcome, just
let us know a week in advance and we will put it on the
calendar.
Signing in/out on the clipboard is a state law. It is
imperative that your child be signed in and out every day.
We cannot stress this importance enough. Please make sure to
inform family members, friends, and carpools that this is a
strict requirement. We are fined by state if your child is
not signed in/out and in turn that fine will be passed on to
you.
Homework will be given a couple of times a week. This is not
required. Please have fun with it. Some children like it and
some don't. When they return their homework please make sure
their name is on it. They will receive a sticker in circle
for their Homework Chart. After 5 stickers they get to go to
our class treasure box.
Each child will have the opportunity to bring home our
"Adventure Back Pack Pal." The backpack will come home once
with each child. The backpack contains one "beanie baby" and
a journal. When your child brings this home you are to write
in your child's own words what he/she did with it during its
stay at your house. There is also a place to draw a picture.
We ask that when the backpack comes to your house that it
return the next day. The journals have only enough pages for
each child to have one page. We then share your child's
adventure that next day in circle.
Our Pre-K program also offers P.E, Art, and Library once a
week. These activities are taught by Holy Rosary teachers.
